A couple of good questions could help organize more you want to express - Written on June 8th, 2020

Asking a good question is more important than solve it. Because the thinking process can spark a lot of good ideas.

Ever since the quarantine started in mid-March, many things have changed. Classes have moved online, many people are staying at home. And almost all non-essential services have shouted down or transferred online. That means I have more free time at hand, if you feel you are not as productive as used to. I have the same feeling.

There many skills you can learn such as cooking and programming. There are plenty of reasons why learning a language or improving skills might be appealing. Although it might be tough and time-consuming. if this is something you enjoy. it can be well worth all the time and effort.

Although many gyms and recreation centres have been closed and social distancing measures are in place, there are still plenty of exercise options . Any form of exercises is a great activity to do because it releases endorphins, which helps relieve stress, improves your mood, sense of well-being and ability to sleep, among many other positive effects.

1. Please tell us a little about your research area?

My research target is a green alga isolated 17 meters below from year round ice covered lake of Antarctica, which obvious could survive in extreme environment. Many physiology and biochemistry experiment have been applied on this genome for at least twenty years. My research focus is to make use of Bioinformatics approach to look into the green alga species at genome level. I try to figure out the questions like Does the UWO241 genome harbour large numbers of duplicate genes? Has it acquired any HGT genes, such as ice-binding proteins genes?Does the UWO241 contain novel genes compare to close related relatives such as Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and Volvox carteri? I am really looking forward to / I am excited to see the potential results.

2. How do you feel your life being impacted by the pandemic?

I lived in a one-bedroom with my wife during this quarantine time, while it is difficult to focus on thesis writing when everything that is happening around the world. I try to take this time to read more articles, polish my research analysis and write the thesis. I think it is important to have a goal in daily life to feel hopeful and to maintain physical and mental wellbeing.

3. Can you tell us your role ?

As a student, I try to get myself prepared for the graduation. As a husband, I take the responsibility of the whole family and get prepared for any unexpected finical crisis. As a son, I wish all the best to my parents.
