I have been travelling in different cities at different stage of my life. As a student, I travelled half of the cities in China, mostly living nearby the University. Since I was a student at that time, my shared experience assisted me to conveniently explore the surroundings of the university in a city, such as where are the book stores, the canteen and the dormitory on campus. If you have friends on campus, this can make things much easier.
When the time comes to my PhD, I usually takes the chances to join workshop or conferences in different cities, with hoping to drop by the university meeting the professors who I am interested. And then I started a family, the travelling is to explore the city whether or not good for future development, I often takes the chances to visit the public facilities such as local libraries, the museum and the malls. Whether or not, my kid can get used to the city until adult, life is a journey of exploring, seek the life we are not sure about. Job searching is a touch-stone for personal development.
