Do you trust gut feeling?

Being fascinated by a group of high-solution photographs on insects and green plants in a popular science journal, I cannot tell where the beauty comes from but just could not get my eye moved from when I was a junior student two decades ago. I never thought that seed of science was growing that far so that it has impacted many important life choices at different stages. This is including a major subject change from studying in Engineering to studying in School of Science after finishing my Bachelor degree, an overseas PhD perusing decision after finishing my Master degree and my current career path as postdoc.

I know we live in a big and complicated world, our thinking will undoubtedly be influenced by surroundings. There are indeed a lot of things to take into considerations, such as the parents’ expectation, family income level, the popularity of the career. However, every time I was in doubted, I ask my gut: is that what I want and can I play something cool on it. If the answer is no and this is not a decision from my heart, there is always a sense of regret bringing me up a feeling of something wrong. Even if the emotion might not happen instantly, but surely it will bother me every time when I rethink it. However, it should be noted not everybody are smart enough to make every decision by their own, it is important to keep up on it and enrich your experience, when one day you will find you are strong enough to make every own decision.
